8.10.10No man is an island. This is perfectly true. No, i am not implying that no man can live without friends. In fact, it is biologically possible to continue to live while leading a solitary life. I am saying that no man wants to be an island, so therefore he is not. And so I come to my discussion of today. What are friends to you? What value do they hold in your life? Forget your boyfriend or girlfriend, or even your crush, I'm talking about your normal friends. How important are they? And do you feel as if they regard you as friends? A one sided relationship with another person is pretty much useless, or harmful in some cases. Someone, who used to follow you all the time, but suddenly deserts you the moment your in trouble, isn't a friend at all. A real friend is someone who stays when everyone leaves, someone who picks out your wrongs because they want you to improve, someone who accepts you for who you are, and not for your wealth or looks or anything of the sort. They're the ones who stick by you to the very end because they have faith in you that you can make it. Those who cling on to you for fame and power are no more than what people normally call "fakes". Moving on, what kind of friend are you? Are you a "fake"? Or are you really true to your friends? If you're the latter, then ask yourself this: how close are you to everyone else? One of my own close friends once told me this: Friends need a mutual understanding between one another; especially close friends. This is something I absolutely agree with. You know you're close to each other when you're not afraid to keep your thoughts to yourself because you know the other party won't be offended. When you're in trouble, when you're in need. Without someone by your side, its difficult to cope with the mental stress. And that's when your allies come in - they're the people who are willing to bear the burdens with you and expect nothing in return. No matter where and no matter when, its important to have a few people by your side. As I mentioned earlier, its absolutely possible to lead a solitary life. But, your life will be, honestly, lousy. Because life is full of challenges. But the choice to face them alone is yours.
